Letters to Santa: 10 Free Printable Santa Letter Templates!

Letters to Santa…one of the top 5 modern-day Christmas traditions! Or maybe not so modern…rumor has it that the very first Santa Letters were connected to Saint Nicholas, the original Santa Claus, just a few years back… in the 4th century!

Fast forward several hundred years, and Santa Letters remain much the same. Children toil over perfectly worded Letters to Santa, honing their social graces, learning to be polite and restrained, and still express their little hearts desires! They then wait by the mailbox for days and weeks for that highly anticipated Letter from Santa, and when it arrives, their excitement is contagious!

While the Santa Letter tradition has remained somewhat stable over the decades and even centuries, the methods used to correspond with Santa have changed considerably. I will leave the specifics of that historical path for another post, however present day children have access to Santa Claus in a wide variety of ways. Children can text Santa, email Santa, call Santa on the telephone. They can see Santa at the mall, watch him on a personalized video, or even possess a photo of him tip-toeing around the Christmas tree in the living room! Heck…they can even travel to Santa’s real life village and see him in person there in Lapland (if their parents have a wallet the size of Santa’s sack!).

Writing a Letter to Santa

For the purposes of this post, we are going to stick to good old fashioned letters to Santa, if you don’t mind!

It’s easy enough to grab a piece of notepaper and a pencil and get your little one started on their Letter to the jolly old Elf. What I have found, though, is that can be pretty overwhelming for them. Fortunately there are a tremendous number of helper Elves out there who have created delightful printable Santa Letters to help the little guys out! Oh I’m sorry…I forgot to say FREE Santa Letters! And these days, that is a lovely gift indeed!
