10 Handmade Christmas Ornaments for Kids: Inspired by Nature!

After Letters from Santa 🙂 , one of this little family’s favorite Christmas Traditions is creating homemade Christmas ornaments each year. The Littlest Helper crafts up  oodles of Ornaments as gifts for her teachers and grandparents, her friends, for our own tree, and most importantly, to leave for Santa Claus when he stops by Christmas Eve!

This year she has asked me once again to go into her class to lead her class in crafting up some DIY Christmas ornaments, so we have been on the hunt for new ideas. Our focus this year is on nature-inspired ornaments (which should help clear out some of the found treasures around here!) and I am really excited about the wonderful inspiration we have found from our crafty blogger friends! If you like twig and pine-cone crafts you will love these!

If you love kids ornament crafts, I have shared a number of Christmas ornaments kids can make in previous posts. You might want to bookmark them now and come back to them later – Reindeer ornaments, Pom Pom ornaments, Santa ornaments, or even Elf ornaments, and Grinch ornaments!

Nature Inspired Ornaments Kids Can Make

1. Twig Tree Ornament – Happy Hooligans

This little twig ornament is one of the ornaments The Littlest Helper has requested we make this year. And we happened to find this exact yarn at the dollar store yesterday! Fun!!

  2. Ribbon Tree Ornament – Typically Simple

This sweet little Ribbon Tree ornament is one I have tried three Christmas‘ in a row to convince The Littlest Helper to make. Her response- “You make them if you like them so much”. Logical as always. This year however, she spotted them and decided she loves them! Yay! This is likely the one we will choose as the Christmas Craft we do with her class – simple enough for all the kids to make regardless of their crafting experience!

3. DIY Christmas Ornaments Using Natural Materials – My Nearest and Dearest

We have done some version of this homemade Christmas ornament nearly every year, so we will likely take a break this year. However, I LOVE the idea of filling them with bits of nature!

Yup – simply adorable! And much easier to make than they look! These little pinecone elf ornaments will likely head back with Santa on Christmas Eve, or maybe be left out on the front steps for those little Elves who come jingling by to drop off that much awaited Christmas Eve Package from Santa!

Okay – I am not sure the intention here was for this to be a Christmas ornament, but when I saw it that is what jumped into my mind! This is a perfect Christmas craft for toddlers, or even preschoolers! All you need to do is attach a loop at the top when they are done!

9. Pine Cone Peacock Ornament – The Kid’s Fun Review

This little pinecone peacock ornament reminds me so much of a magnet peacock craft we did at The Littlest Helper’s second birthday! Imagine this little sweetheart hanging from the branches of your Christmas Tree!

10. Beaded Twig Christmas Ornaments – Housing A Forest

I can’t wait to get started on these beaded twig ornaments. And I especially love how they use the fork of the twig, so no hot glue required, which makes it perfect for those little people to feel like they have completed the entire craft themselves!
